1999 yamaha g16
I just bought a nice 1999 g16e. It runs ok buy has little to no torque. I have two curtis 400amp controllers laying around. Assuming 0-5k what do I have to do to upgrade my controller?

Re: 1999 yamaha g16
Better check the controller part numbers to be sure the other controllers are not "ezgo ITS throttle" controllers. If they are "0-5k" controllers, the yamaha 0-5k throttle sensors used in G19 & G22 fit in the same "throttle box" used in the "0-1k" G16, would work easy. The F&R is a weak point on G16, i wrote a thread about using a ezgo f&r to upgrade, or a "ScottyB" reversing contactor setup.

Re: 1999 yamaha g16
Wow thanks that was incredibly helpful :)
New issue this controller has molex connectors (assuming for optional options) would this cause a problem ? Looks like this. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...cy-0b-60_1.jpg With this connection http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...nfusion-_1.jpg It's a curtis 1205x |

Re: 1999 yamaha g16
That second pic looks like a replacement controller for a ezgo (has ezgo plug). Not a factory Curtis ezgo series controller. Their HD option was a curtis 400a controller, but it didnt have that plug. The era of ezgo that used that plug used the ITS throttle, and is incompatible with both the 0-1k and 0-5k throttles used by yamaha. Hope its not a ITS throttle. Got a pic of that label, or did you get all the numbers from it?

Re: 1999 yamaha g16
Ok, probably not a ezgo controller, looks like its probably 0-5k. That is a strange controller. I would use keyswitch to power the KSI terminal & the Fwd terminal. Wire the rest up like normal. A2 terminal is not necessary, if its not easy skip it.

Re: 1999 yamaha g16
You are a life saver! With your help and some tips from buggies unlimited's "speed kit" instructions . Now my problem is that i only get about 25% of speed I think I have a bad pot I got a 0-5k pit from a g22 and my ohm readings go from .06 to 3.45 so it's not reaching 5.00 . Can I fix this my cleaning or what?

Re: 1999 yamaha g16
Well, to see if you are getting full speed (or how far off you really are), check the controller input voltage compared to output voltage. Hook test meter leads to B+ & B- at controller, test drive while someone watches meter for lowest & highest voltages. Them move the test leads to B+ & M- , and repeat test as closely as possible.

Re: 1999 yamaha g16
Will do. Will those ohm readings make a difference? I thought it needed to be around 5k
