86 Parcar runs and dies, runs and dies
Hi everyone!
I see others have had a similar issue but they didn't follow up with the results. Last weekend we were driving along and all of a sudden it bogged down and died. Wouldn't start after that. The following day I went out and it ran fine for about 1/2 hour and died again. Currently I can only go about 200 feet and it dies. After about an an hour it will start again but dies after another 200 feet. The carburetor bowl is filled with gas and I believe there is spark. If I pull the choke as it's bogging down it gets a burst for a few more seconds but eventually dies. Any thoughts on where to start troubleshooting? Thanks for your help in advance! I know you guys like pics so here you go. |

She'e not bad looking!
Try the baisics first- Sounds like a fuel problem, check the fuel filter, see if your fuel pump is working,& if your gas tank vent is working. Hope that helps-I'm a little more of a Harley/Columbia guy! Always want to see more pix!! |

Thanks Stawhead.
I replaced the fuel filter after this started hapenning and the pump was shooting a good amount of fuel when i disconnected it from the carb. Where is the fuel tank vent? On top of the tank? Now that you mention it, I did replace the tank cap (fuel guage) with one I had sitting around. This was shortly before all of this started happening. That can't be it! I'll follow up after I get home. |

I think that might have been the problem!
Took off the tank cap and went for a nice long ride tonight. I'll have to do some more riding to be sure. Why would that be? |

Re: 86 Parcar runs and dies, runs and dies
Your original cap was more than likely vented & the one you replaced it with was not.
Anyway, you'll get a vacuum build up that is more than the suction pressure of the fuel pump. Older carts will have a check valve on top of the fuel tank to keep it at "open air" pressure. Just go to autozone or something & match up your cap. Hopefully that's the problem! Good Luck! I Hope I helped. |
