Can I run LEDs off two 6V batteries?
I have a 1990 Club Car DS 36 volt. I've noticed that light kits for my cart are pretty expensive. Is there any reason that I cannot run a hot lead from battery #1 and a ground from battery #2 to a switch and then to a pair of LEDs on the front bumper? I get 12.5 volts across those two batteries and my LEDs say they'll run on 9-30 VDC. Am I missing anything?

Sure, that will work. It's technically better to put a voltage reducer in and power the lights with it. That way you are powering the lights off the entire pack evenly rather than just two batteries. That being said, LEDs require a lot less draw than traditional lights so you'll be ok with it.

Re: Can I run LEDs off two 6V batteries?
As already stated it can be done but is not the correct way to do it. Reason it is not is if left on enough will created an imbalance in the pack with the two batteries running the accessories/lights being a lower state of charge then the rest of the pack.
If its just some led lights and they are only used when the cart is being run and cant be accidently left on it would likely be fine for a long while. If you start introducing more power hungry things like radios and what not then it could be more of a issue. Also quality voltage reducers are pretty cheap and easy to install. Here is a good example. https://www.amazon.com/Pro-Chaser-Co...s%2C239&sr=8-6 |
