Battery storage idea
I was thinking the other night of charging my batteries over the winter. I’m removing them from the cart and keeping them in a exterior (we will call it a shed) area on my property. I have a noco genius 12/24 volt smart charger. In 24 volt mode it is a 13amp smart charger with storage mode. I was thinking of splitting my 6 eight volt batteries into 2 banks of 3. I was going to charge each individual 24 volt bank, and then when both banks are completely charged, wire then in parallel and leave the charger on it over the winter.
Any pros or cons to doing this? Anyone ever do anything similar? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Battery storage idea
Absolutely! (as there will not be any demand on the pack and with the maintenance mode that should work well)

Re: Battery storage idea
Can certainly do that, but I would just leave them in the cart. Less lifting... at least of that sort...

Have a look at my post on float charging here: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...-question.html Edit - I had a look at the NOCO G26000 manual. It says: Step 8: Maintenance Continuously monitors the battery to determine when a maintenance charge should be initiated. If the battery voltage falls below its target threshold, the charger will restart the Maintenance cycle until voltage reaches its optimal state and then discontinues the charge cycle. The cycle between Optimization and Maintenance is repeated indefinitely to keep the battery at full charge. The battery charger can be safely left connected indefinitely without the risk of overcharging. If your battery charger operates as above, you should be OK with keeping it plugged in . The older version of the NOCO's CONTINUOUSLY float the battery ... which I believe is not the desired method of float charging. Monitor your battery voltage when floating to see what kind of float setting you have. I have 3 older NOCO's (G1100, G7200 and GENM1) which I believe continuously float ... some at higher than Trojan recommended float voltage. |

Re: Battery storage idea
I installed a voltage and current meter inline with the charger itself. I’ll be checking.

Re: Battery storage idea
I'd be interested to see how / what you installed for charger voltage and amperage monitoring. A few photos would be great!

Re: Battery storage idea
I use this meter. All of my dc connectors are power poles

Re: Battery storage idea
It is nice to know what parameters you are charging any battery at ... too bad this is limited to 60 volts. I am always concerned when hooking something up to 65 volts when it is only rated for 60.
