1980 EZ Go 2 Stroke Oil Pump Removal
I've got a ? 1985 EZ Go 2 Stroke that has an oil leak from the oil pump. I changed all the lines and it is continuing to weep from it.
Looking at the setup - a piece of the fly wheel that turns the pump has broken off - (if it is like a letter U one of the vertical pieces was missing.) I'm wondering if I can just remove the oil tank and plug off the pump lines and run premixed gas - or if there is a bearing that needs that lubrication from the oil on the back side of the oil pump? What premix is everyone running? Last edited by birddog5; 04-14-2015 at 11:10 AM.. Reason: year change! |

Yes, you can take it off.
100 or 128:1 is the norm for premix |

Re: 1980 EZ Go 2 Stroke Oil Pump Removal
EZGO recommend 128:1 which makes life easy for you as that is 1 ounce of oil per 1 gallon of gasoline. You should not just pour the oil into the gas tank as surprisingly the oil is not that soluble. It is better to pour the oil into a container and shake it up first. Also when you remove the oil pump and lines you will need to plug the hole in the inlet manifold where the banjo bolt was to prevent air being sucked in.

Re: 1980 EZ Go 2 Stroke Oil Pump Removal
Did the modification yesterday - pump and all lines off, tank out and I put a new very short hose near the intake and drove a screw into it.
You were correct about the gas tank and premixing the gas! I had about a half a tank, so I added 3 oz of Amsoil to it. It just kind of sat there... Ended up adding three more gallons that was mixed and shaken to it so it would blend better. Strangest thing I saw that day. I've got to still fix the secondary clutching from giving up so easily, but it's running and not leaking all over the garage floor. Off to the course today! |
