Re: Solenoids failing -mzj-400
Did You try powering them up again?
I have mine mounted horizontally as well as it provides a more "neutral" position for the plunger and springs. A fly-back diode is also critical on that two coil design as it not only provides protection to the switching device but it also reduces the L2 coil discharge current when the N.C. contacts return to their normal position. |

Re: Solenoids failing -mzj-400
Here is picture of current mounting position. Am I understanding it correctly that Rotating 90* Would be a better position?

Re: Solenoids failing -mzj-400
Yes and it looks like you have plenty of room to have it sideways (coil barrel in a horizontal position).
On my build I used the unused space behind the battery bucket to allow room for the "bottom" of the Solenoid: The XCT should not have a pre-charge resistor and it needs a Regen diode (10A10 diode) with the "Stripe" on the post that has the pack positive cable. |

Re: Solenoids failing -mzj-400
I am glad you posted that picture bc I wouldn’t have mounted it correctly. I was going to mount it sideways.

Re: Solenoids failing -mzj-400
If by sideways you mean one big post UP and one DOWN, that is correct as well.
The "Horizontal Mounting" refers to the orientation of the "Coil Barrel/Cylinder". You can achieve that orientation by Wall Mounting or Floor/Ceiling mounting the Solenoid. Remember to remove the pre-charge resistor and add the Regen diode. It would be a good idea to also test that fly-back diode to make sure it is good. |

Can you clarify removing the pre-charge resistor and adding regen diode? I am pretty sure i Have the pre-charge installed on my large terminals and the fly back diode is installed on my small terminals. are you saying to remove the resistor off my large terminals? |

Re: Solenoids failing -mzj-400
Look at notes #4 AND #5, You need to remove the pre-charge resistor and install the "Regen Diode" on the big posts with the stripped end of the diode on the post that has the pack positive cable.

Thanks, guess i missed that part when I did the install. I will order a 6a6 diode. Would a 10A10 work? I have some of those on hand. |

Re: Solenoids failing -mzj-400
Yes, the 10A10 is even better
