Taylor-Dunn no start
I need some help from the gurus out there.
I have what appears to be a 1996 Taylor-Dunn FT-016-40 yamaha gas powered 6 passenger "tram" My problem is even though I have spark, the valves are adjusted, what looks to be a new ignition module, newer aftermarket carb, it just won't pop over.. It will act like it wants to start but not quite catch. The air box is as sealed as I can get it and it acts the exact same way when I shoot carb cleaner into it. The plug when I remove it is covered in carbon and dry (sometimes hot if I crank it long enough). The engine also has decent compression. I feel like I'm overlooking something and can't quite put my finger on it. Is it possible this machine has adjustable timing? If it does how do I check and adjust it. Thank you in advance for all your help |

Re: Taylor-Dunn no start
I found that the engine wiring diagram for a yamaha g9-a looks very similar to what is on the cart.
A previous owner was into the wiring and I'm going to use the schematic as a guide to double check everything. Will the ignitor being wired improperly cause my issues? I'll update if something changes |

Re: Taylor-Dunn no start
I may have found it, or at least one of the issues.
The primary coil winding is only showing between 1.6 ~ 1.8 ohms of resistance. The G9 service manual states 3.57 ~ 4.83 ohms of resistance.. The secondary winding in the coil shows 10.13 ohms whereas the manual states 11.2 ~ 15.2 ohms as spec. This leads me to believe that while i show spark when i pull the plug, it is most probably weak and possibly intermittent under real starting conditions. I'm also thinking that the low resistance may also causing the "pre-ignition" resulting in the popping back through the carb.. |

Re: Taylor-Dunn no start
I figured it out.
A previous owner was into the wiring harness and when they repaired the leads from the pickup coil to the CDI they reversed the white/red and the white/black. Once I fixed this the cart fired right up.. Tomorrow I have to reattach the coil, recheck the valves and maybe adjust the carb a little to get her all fine tuned. |

Re: Taylor-Dunn no start
Hey TD , I'm looking at a Taylor Dunn right now that has sat for a while , overall are the parts standard or property to Taylor Dunn? Any other thought on them would be appreacited also. One other thing if it has a metal cab is everything else fiberglass ? 2002 yr Thanks divedigger
