Default 2001 DS - FE290 Popping through carb

I acquired a 2001 DS Gas. The issue is that I am getting popping/backfiring through the carb as the engine tries to start. I am pretty good at diagnosing most problems but this one has me scratching my head. Compression test showed 145psi and the valve lash is on the money. I pulled the head off and cleaned it. The valves looked okay other than carbon deposits. I relapped the valves before reinstalling the head. Once I got the engine put all back together the engine ran great for 5 seconds then shut down and started popping through the carb again and won't start. I drained the gas tank and serviced with fresh gas. I also changed the oil because it was contaminated with gas. I need some direction on were to go next. Thanks in advance!

Problem solved! Ended up being a faulty ignition coil and REV limiter.
