Do dot tires ride a lot better than non-dot?

for street I would say yes for trails NO. As a hold DOT tires will last longer on streets than Non-DOT will, also as a hold they don't make as much noise as non-dot tires.

I have had both and they rode about the same. I didn’t notice a difference in wear. If you are going to tag it then DOT is the way to go.
