Default Yamaha G16 steering

I need some opinions. I am working on my custom cart and trying to figure out the best approach on the front steering? The original stock steering doesn't work because I need to angle the steering wheel down at least a good foot. I currently have a CC DS rack n pinion, steering knuckles, and steering column. But the tie rods are tapered and the spindles are skinny so I cannot thread it up all the way to tighten it. Any suggestions? (Rack and pinion is just zip tied there for mocking purposes.)
