I have a 1990 club car 36 volt new batteries in the process now breaking them in. They are at 80 percent now how long should the car run before it needs charging.

everytime you run the cart for more than about 15 mins you should charge it.

you just picked up the new batteries and they are @ 80% and you haven't charged them yet. or you have charged them and you have driven it once or twice and they are now at 80%?

if you just got them and they are reading 80% plug the cart up and let it charge till the charger cuts off on it's own. then drive it for about 10 15 mins and charge it again. do this about 25 times.

then the batteries will be good and broke in.

I hope this helps.

Cheers

That depends on so many factors that anything on "YOUR PARTICULAR CART" would be only a guess. Stock 36 volt early resistor carts could travel on a dry solid road 5-7 plus miles before needing recharged ( this is based on fully charged batterys that is pulled down to NO LESS than 75% "TROJAN SAYS 80% MINIMUM" ), EACH CELL would have specific gravity of about 1.215 and voltage of 2.30 Volts. I have neighbor with a 1992 CC COMPLETLY REBUILT and he can make it to pharmacy in local community and back ( 3.75 miles each way on pavement ) and digital dash meter reads 36 volts which is 50% of charge and is too low for good battery life? Needless to say when possible he is going to upgrade to PB-6, solid state controller and 4 guage cables to stretch his range to his doctors clinic ( 5 miles each way ) and more.

hmmmm 22 miles? I don't think that is possible.

A stock cart hits what maybe 10 - 12 mph? with t105 batteries i think you can get like 90 or 120 mins of run time. But that might be to dead slam dead batteries. You shouldn't take a carts batteries down below 50% charge if you want them to last a while.

so going by that. 10mph x 45mins = 7.65 miles. and 10mph x 60 mins = 10 miles.

so i would say a 36v system if you were to drive for a straight hour is looking to be charged.

Another option would be to swap for some 24/26" tires on the rear for extending the mileage!
Also, regarding the battery life when drawn down to 50%, if they are recharged immediately on arriving home I think that the difference in battery life would be negligible. Just don't let them set for days in the discharged condition. I suspect someone here will correct me on that one!
