Default Welding Cable vs. Audio Cable

Sorry if this has been asked, but I didn't see it.

I see that everyone is using welding cable to upgrade their battery cables. Is there a big difference between using welding cable vs. high quality audio cable?

2g is the most popular. 2g welding lead has over 600 strands. Plus the jacket is acid proof, a big plus.

Wire gauge is wire gauge. Copper is copper. The biggest difference is the number of strands within the wire. More strands makes it more flexible and easier to route and work with.

Any resistance differences related to the strand count will be marginal at best and never have any kind of noticeable effect on performance.

That said, beware of cheap car audio cables. Many cheaper ones will have the outer diameter of the claimed gauge, but really it’s just thick insulation. I’ve seen “budget” 4awg cable that was slightly smaller than a stinger 8awg cable

Thanks for the replies guys!

I have a friend that owns a car audio shop and I was planning on making new cables with the Stinger wire he uses for power, but didn't want to waste the time and money if it wasn't going to make a difference.
