1992 club car 48v conversion questions
Hey guys so I got a 1992 36v club car DS from my neighbor with a blown motor and no batteries. Good news is the body is good shape and was already a 4 seater. My neighbor also gave me a stock 48v motor to go with the cart. I'm curious, since the cart needs batteries and with the 48v motor, can I install new 8v batteries, install the motor, and simply swap out the 36v coil and install a 48v one to make it run off of the v-glide system? I believe I can stick with the regular forward/reverse switch. I guess I could buy a 48v charger with a crows foot end also to retain the factory charging plug.
I'm trying to attach pictures of the 48v motor and the 36v one that was in it. If this doesn't work, could I simply just run the 36v system with new 6v batteries and simply just install the 48v motor to get the cart running? |

Re: 1992 club car 48v conversion questions
I’m far from an expert but since I needed batteries and a charger I’m going lithium.
I’m also about to pull the trigger on ScottyB’s modern controller for my project. https://www.cartsunlimited.net/why-c...-drive---.html |

Re: 1992 club car 48v conversion questions
Since you got a freebie I think I would modernize it with an all around conversion. Check out cartsunlimited.net for some package deals and get something more reliable. You're at a great starting point if the body and frame are in good shape.

Re: 1992 club car 48v conversion questions
In 1992 Club Car produced solid state and resistor coil 36v carts on the same DS platform. Which drive system does your new cart have?
A 48v motor in a 36v system will be very weak and slow. You have a great platform for a nice cart. Invest in a decent drive system |

Re: 1992 club car 48v conversion questions
Ditch the series drive entirely and do a sepex setup.
More efficient, better power, better speed. If you need to pull a house around or go hunting with the cart then maybe stay with the series motor, but if you're on flat ground or slight hills go with 48v sepex. Or you could go all the way and put an AC drive in it. |

Also if I stuck to the 36v system you mentioned the cart will run slow. Will it run the same speed as the original 36v motor? 12-12mph? |

Re: 1992 club car 48v conversion questions
If you put 48v in a resistor coil cart it will likely fail before the weekend is out.
If you put a 48v motor in a 36v system it will run about 1/2 speed or so. Sorry but it's a little more complicated than you expected. Call around and find a 36v motor. |

Re: 1992 club car 48v conversion questions
Make sure your 48V motor is a series motor.
That motor will run On 72V, 25mph. You can start with 4x12v DC batteries from Walmart then add another one or 2 if u need more speed. However with resistor cart you don’t have a lot of speed control. You can pick up a 72V series controller from a forklift 1209B Curtis controller and a 0-5K ohm throttle |
