Default Alltrax AXE Digital Display

Most displayed values could use a common set of "warning" and "danger" LEDs.

Display would show:

Speed - instantaneous, average, and max. Need a proxi-sensor for series motors, but could use the motor's sensor for Sepex motors. Need user setting for tire circumference in mm.

RPM - instantaneous, average, and max.

Odometer - total, and trip.

Temperature - motor and ambient. - need sensors.

Clock - clock, stop watch, trip time, total run hours.

From the controller:
controller temperature, input voltage, input current, output current, throttle position.

Need to add a controller output voltage, and if you add pack voltage, I could use a rotary switch to monitor voltage for all eight batteries, one at a time.

Features:

Data-logging to a flash drive.
Separate power supply for display and backlight, to allow killing the backlight.
Sleep mode, to power the unit off after a user settable inactivity period.

For reference, here's the Alltrax ExRay manual:

Strawman:

Main screen:
Speed (instantaneous, max)
Voltage (controller, pack)
Current (controller, pack)
Temperature (motor instantaneous, motor max, ambient)

One button can be used to scroll through the displayed outputs above. Another button can scroll through the possible values in parentheses, with a third button to clear the "max" value shown.

Screen two:
Odometer (total, trip)
Clock (clock, trip, total run time)
Throttle position
RPM (instantaneous, max)

User setting screen:
Speed (warning, danger)
Tire circumference
RPM (warning, danger)
Low pack voltage (warning, danger)
Motor temperature (warning, danger)

RPM - instantaneous, delete average, and max.

Odometer - total, and trip.

Temperature - motor and ambient. - need sensors.

Clock - clock, delete stop watch, delete trip time, total run hours. Total run hours could be triggered by the controller being powered up for series. Not sure about sepex controllers. If they are different, it could be triggered by throttle position or controller current > 0.

controller temperature, input voltage, input current, output current, throttle position.

I'm thinking four buttons, first toggles between the screens, the other three are mentioned in the third post above.

4.3" TFT color touch screen $25.
4.3" TFT color screen alone $18. The cost of mechanical buttons add a much greater overall cost. for the buttons, and board size. The beauty of "soft buttons" is that you can change them to be anywhere on the screen, size color, or even make it an image. Give me a couple days i will whip up a cheap dirty demo for you guys to see to get an idea of what i am thinking about. I already have the hardware setup, let me whip up some software demo to run on it.

Touchscreen it is.
My proposed screens 1 and 2 were an attempt to limit each screen to four values, which would make for larger text for folks with old eyes. I need reading glasses, but never wear them when I'm out riding.

Not a problem, the user will be able to change font size for their own style.
You'r going to have to hold me back here ;) i can get nuts with this stuff. On the unit for me, i am going to throw in a Wi-Fi module so my cart has its own web page with graphs, charts and so on. so when i am back in the comfort of my own home and on my PC i can point my browser to my carts IP and see everything i did on that last run. where my foot was at at any time overlaid with current and speed at that point. Even see if she's charged up and ready to go before i even walk outside to say hi to her.

P.S. IMHO, the controllers should have this built into them. I am even entertaining the possibility of making my own controller with all these options built in.
I will make the head unit blue-tooth, so the only cables you wire to it will be power, gnd and ign.
