If I remember correctly the stud has a square base on the inside that keeps it from turning and the corrosion gets to that as well allowing it too turn.

Is there any way to get the starter tested?

I'm sure it can easily be tested, if you know how.

Here is a link to a thread that shows how to test it: Starter Test!

I don't think any thing was wired wrong. You said every thing worked fine before you took in apart to change the seals. If you have a starter rebuild shop around you, they can check it out for you

That's what bothers me I'm pretty sure I plugged everything back in properly. It's just weird that it all of the sudden doesn't get anything. Is there a way to test the solenoids? It got rained on pretty good. I'm not sure if that could have rusted or corroded anything. Can someone give me a sort of checklist to go over when putting the engine back in?

How's it going, Blizzrd?

Get that cart running yet?

I can walk you through troubleshooting it, if you've got a voltmeter.
And, some time.
And, some persistence.

Nope. The holidays and weather have pretty much stopped me in my tracks. I'd love some help but will need some serious hand holding here as when it comes to electric stuff I'm useless. I did find a place that still works on them but I'd love to give it another shot. I hope the CDI didn't get shot when it got rained on.

So I had a shop come pick it up. So far the only thing they can say for sure is that the starter generator is bad. They can't promise that once replaced it will fix everything but for now at least that part is bad. They want $525 to replace it. im just going to order one.

You can find them on eBay for $120. Make sure you keep the old one. It might just need a set of brushes.

If that gets you moving, that'll be great. If it's still not starting then send an update post. I can walk you through some steps to find out why you're not getting it to turn over.

Regards,
Todd

Thanks Todd. I'm going to take the part to them and have them out it in. $40 is worth my time and frustration. If it starts then I can pick it up and save the $65 delivery fee and use that towards having them install it. Hopefully that's all that's wrong with it. They said that it looked like the starter has been rebuild already because some of the screws were torn up and at least one post at the bottom was very loose. I should get the new part on Monday. I'll keep you posted.
