Re: 2001 club car ds gas bad rearend noise
When I bought it I drained it and refilled it with 90 weight gear oil until it ran out of the top plug. It wasn't amsoil... It was just gear oil from the autoparts store.

Re: 2001 club car ds gas bad rearend noise
Mine also has a noise. It's kinda like a slight friction noise but I suspected that the all did this to slow you down when drifting. I'm hopefully going to put it onto stands this weekend and see if it happens in nutral. I'll keep you posted. But I guess my question is, do they all hold back when going down hill like in a low gear?

Re: 2001 club car ds gas bad rearend noise
My 2002 club car ds makes the same rubbing noise. I thought it was my brakes so I took off the drum brake covers and spun the axles by hand and the rubbing noise is still there. The noise is coming from both axles.

Was this issue ever resolved? I literally have the same exact problem as the original poster.

Re: 2001 club car ds gas bad rearend noise
Trent, I had the same problem with the DS cart I bought a few years ago. Ended up being the bearings in the rear transaxle. I could have changed them but didn’t have time so I just took it to my club car guy in Augusta. Cost me a little bit but was done correctly.. Figured it was cheaper for me to do that rather than me tear it up and still have to pay him to fix it.

Re: 2001 club car ds gas bad rearend noise
Most commonly it's the bearings on the rear end input shaft - the shaft the driven clutch goes on. There is no pump to spread the gear lube around, so it depends on just splashing off the lower gear set in the transaxle. The input shaft bearings are the highest ones in there, so they will sometimes not get all the lubrication you might hope for.
