Back to the original problem... He says reverse lever so must be an 81 or older. Creeping forward means starter was working. Flipping to reverse and having it still moving forward doesn't make sense. Should have make some serious sparks in the switch and made the starter try and suddenly reverse maybe burning things up in the process. Or is this maybe a very early cart that has a transmission? Where is the gas tank? Plastic in the back would be mid 70's. Metal tank under the seat would be earlier. Do the badges say AMF harley or just harley? Is the reverse lever just got wires on it or is there a rod that goes back to something that could be a transmission?
Sorry I just saw that you asked a few questions about my "Harley" cart... As near as I can tell its a 69D Model... Metal Gas Tank under the seat and the forward/reverse lever has wires going to it...

I think we need a recap on what the current symptoms are.

Ok... Here is the recap...

So I had my Harley Cart (near as I can determine it is a 69D Gas model) running.... Took off slowly in forward and then switched to reverse while the cart was moving....

Then I could not get it to start.. The solenoid clicks when you have the key on and press on the gas pedal in either forward or reverse...

I removed the Starter/Generator and took it to a friend who rebuilds them, he says the starter is fine....

I tested the circuits while the starter was still in the cart, and it energizes different connections when you move the Forward/Reverse switch between forward and reverse.

The only thing left that I can think of is a fuse or circuit breaker being bad, but I dont know what it looks like or where exactly it could be located?

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks

So it was running fine in both directions. Plenty of speed, smoke, and noise? So at least walking speed? Then while the engine and cart were moving forward (still at least walking speed) you flipped the lever to reverse? This was the bit where you said the cart was still going forward like nothing happened? Till you took your foot off the gas and tried to go again in either direction, now all you get is a click from the solenoid?

If the fuse/circuit breaker was out the solenoid would not be clicking. My guess is you damaged the F/R switch and maybe what is left of it can flow enough juice to run a meter but not enough to spin the starter. Take er apart and hope what you damaged is still available? Some bits are and others are not.

Its a little hard to figure out what goes to what for what direction but in theory you could bypass it to only run in one direction just to make sure that is the only issue. If it is badly damaged and you can't find or don't want to pay the asking price you could look at the conversion kit some of the cart places sell for the 82-95 carts, I think its well over $100 too but could be cheaper than the prices I have seen for a good original switch.

UPDATE: Got the old Harley Cart up and running again!!! After chasing my tail, testing the Starter/Alternator, I thought the solenoid was good, I could hear it click when I stepped on the gas... My best friend who is a better mechanical person than me helped me diagnose the issues while putting the tested starter back on.... We replaced the solenoid and she is up and running again...

I truly appreciate everyone who tried to help me with this thing!!

The three pictures were taken at the wheels through time museum in Maggie Valley N.C. I have more pictures I will send in to be posted that are other uses for Harley power plants.
