Yamaha excel V 540 into a G9 cart
Newbie here but I've been trying to search and read as much as I can. But I'm new so a few questions.
Can I cap off or get rid of the direct oil injection if I just use mixed gas? How important is it to have the carb bowl completely leve?l because for clearance issues with the carts seat I have to put the motor in maybe a 10° angle. Also the exhaust has the large belly canister then a muffler, can I ditch the muffler? And just any basic" must do's" you guys csn think of. Also will the Yamaha G9's clutch and gearbox will cope with this much more power? |

I'd say the gear box will handle it. These are very tough rearends. Stock clutch? Meh ...maybe for a bit. There's great aftermarket clutchs available. If it's a sled motor, doesnt it have a cvt type clutch on it already? And yes, you can ditch the oil injection and just pre mix your fuel.

Yes it's CVT so I'm using the sleds primary belted to the carts secondary and rear end.

Re: Yamaha excel V 540 into a G9 cart
Ok fellas motors in and she flys! Still have to mock up better exhaust because it's too loud with none. Also Its my understanding the secondary cable that went to the throttle and goes to a mechanism on top of the rear end is my governor correct? What can I do with that contraption? Not sure what position it was in when I test drove it but did a quick rip up the road and hit at least 35 with plenty to go. Also Is there a proper way to "cap off" the oil injection system or just leave everything the way it is and tuck it out of the way?

Re: Yamaha excel V 540 into a G9 cart
Just FYI;
The excel 540 is a 540cc 2 stroke fan cooled twin from an excel yamaha snowmobile, the SRV model has the same or similar (said to later have larger ports) engine but was a more popular sled in the 1980s. They are around 50-55hp factory. |
