Gearing with tires
Right now I am running a 25" tall dirt devil tires with stock gearing in my club car, which I'm guessing is some where around 12 to 1. I would like it to be higher geared for more top speed, wouldn't it be easiest to just add 28" tires?

Re: Gearing with tires
Your not going to pick up much for speed that way. Seems to me you only gain a little bit more than a mile per hour with every inch in diameter you go up. somewhere on the site is a speed calculator that you put in different tire diameters to see how fast you can go. i'm not sure where it is though.

Re: Gearing with tires
That definitely wouldn't be worth it. I think gears are a couple hundred bucks. May just have to bite the bullet.....

Re: Gearing with tires
Guess it depends on what motor I go with. I go to the dunes a lot here in Oregon, and if I keep the CBR600 motor in my cart I can handle the lower gears because I have six in the tranny, but I hate not having reverse. I got a line on a Honda 24 hp, and that would let me use reverse, but can't handle high gears.

Re: Gearing with tires
Depending on the year of your cart for the gear choice. 1997 up CC had clockwise engine, the 24 hp honda would more than likely be a ccw engine which means the cart would run forward in reverse and the reverse is a lower gear than forward.
Go to big block section for more info about putting the 24 hp honda in. |

Re: Gearing with tires
Thanks, I didn't even consider which way the motor ran. I think my CC is pre 1997, but I will have to look.
