Re: Columbia Par Car Points Conversion
Does this seem like a correct test procedure? found it on golftcartcare dot com...i cant post links yet..
Base plate with plastic module, cam and wires. Also part # 30509-86 The ELECTRONIC IGNITION MODULE can be tested by the following procedures: 1) Remove the black wire from the ignition module, where it connects to the coil. 2) Connect the positive lead from the volt meter to the black wire. 3) Connect the negative lead from the volt meter to ground. 4) Remove the spark plug wire 5) Turn the meter on, set to the "diode" tester. It will either show a flashing number(open state) or a value around .55V. An "open state" (flashing number) shows that the transister is NOT conductng and needs replaced. 6) Turn the ignition key to ON. While watching the meter, turn the flywheel by hand. The value (.55V) should be on for approximately half the rotation and the "open state" (flashing number) for the other half of the rotation. If the above readings are absent, replace the module. |

Re: Columbia Par Car Points Conversion
My experience has been those modules are "all or nothing" meaning they work or they don't. I have never seen one work until a cart gets warmed up then stop but who knows.

Re: Columbia Par Car Points Conversion
They got the way mine is timed correct so I would assume what they say is correct. It can't hurt anything to test it so try it out.
Download this manual and have a look at it: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/colum...UTILITRUCK.pdf It tells you how to time with the solid state ignition but it doesn't say how to test it. Go to 10-8 and see Starting Circuit Test. |

Re: Columbia Par Car Points Conversion
The points cam is going to be on the end of the crankshaft. Basically it is the crankshaft. In other words the cam doesn't come off or go back on, unless you change cranks. Take a pic of the end of the crank and someone will verify you have a cam or not.
Points and condensor sets, just pick one: (There are more vehicles but these I have verified) 230 Chevrolet inline 6 (3.8L) engines 1965 Chevrolet El Camino 1964–1970 Chevrolet Chevy II / Nova 1967 Chevrolet Camaro 250 Chevrolet inline 6 (4.1L) engines 1970–1976 Pontiac Firebird 1967–1979 Chevrolet Camaro The points plate will probably have to be ordered online. |

Re: Columbia Par Car Points Conversion
Yours doesn't have the cam but it looks like you may be able to install one IF they make such a thing.
Do you have a links to the cam and plates? A used plate would be fine if its the right one. |

Re: Columbia Par Car Points Conversion
The cam and all the parts I've been able to find on vintagegolfcartparts.com
the points plate has two different OE part numbers...the one on the left is new, the one on the right is the used match. I'm not sure which plate I need? (see picture) there is only one cam option: http://www.vintagegolfcartparts.com/...idson_ignition |

Re: Columbia Par Car Points Conversion
One of the two plates on top (IG101 or IG101A) is what you need.
EN149 cam states it's for 67-81 HD models. I don't know if it will work or not. You could call them or maybe someone else will say if it will work. |
