Re: '82 Columbia Switch Fix
This is a great thread... Do you think this winch two way solenoid would work for this instead of two solenoids?
There's many like it on Ebay too: http://compare.ebay.com/like/2306058...=263602_325002 Here's another version, same concept. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3689&viewitem= Your thoughts? Will these work? Thanks for your input. cp |

Re: '82 Columbia Switch Fix
The solenoids have to be continuous duty & rated up towards 200 amps,I think the winch ones would burn out.
The original key switch on these things had to be designed by a crack addict,EVERYTHING runs through it! |

Re: '82 Columbia Switch Fix
Here's the best copy of the schematic I could find. I tried to enlarge it, but the quality just wasn't there
Here's the documentation I found on the first solenoid I posted: BRAND NEW HEAVY DUTY 12 VOLT Reversing Polarity Contactor for Permanent Magnet Winch and Reversable Motors This solenoid switch is used to reverse polarity on permanent Magnet winch motors with 2 terminal posts. It will not work on Winch motors with 3 terminal posts. Applications: Winch Motors, Windlasses, Hydraulic Pump Motors & Other Reversible Motors that Normally Require Multiple Solenoids. Used on late model Ramsey and other winch and hydraulic applications, and Industrial Equipment. This solenoid will work only with Permanent Magnet Motors. It will not work with the older style motors with copper field coils. This solenoid is guaranteed to perform equal or better than the solenoid it is replacing. Voltage: 12 volts Number of Terminals: 6 Continuous or Intermittent?: Continuous Duty New or Remanufactured: New Notes: DPDT Motor Reversing Solenoid, (4) 5/16″-24 Threaded Studs for Battery & Motor, (2) 6.4mm Blade Terminals for Solenoid Operation, (2) 7.1mm x 10.4mm Mounting Slots, 150 Surge Amps, 75 Amps Carry for 5 Minutes I ordered one...I figure somebodies gotta be a guinea pig right? I looked at the cheap POS that the factory installed and thought this has got to be an upgrade from that setup. My original factory switch lasted 20+ yrs..than I bought a replacement last spring...lasted one season (sorta) I'll be finishing installation this weekend, and then the real test begins...to see if it holds up under daily use, if it doesn't I'm halfway to the dual solenoid setup. I'll post some pics of the install too. cp |

Re: '82 Columbia Switch Fix
Switch Update: Replacements are in country (sorry, still from China) and being tested. Might be another month yet, but there's a glimmer of hope.
