Re: par car f/off/r
Hey Tech Support. Could you re-upload those diagrams? I increased the file size limits so maybe they will be easier to read.

Re: par car f/off/r
Nate wrote:"My fault, I was looking at topics unanswered, you posted on the correct forum page. The switch controls the starter motor direction, as you probably know. Doing a retrofit on this from EZ-GO or CC might be easier than I thought. What I don't know; does the switch control the starter motor directly or does it control relays that control the starter motor? Hopefully someone who knows this wiring for sure will chime in."
I think you are correct. I think if I use a regular key switch and a automotive toggle switch to start the motor and a ez or cc f/r to select the direction it should work great and if i remove the micro the motor can idle and warm up in the colder months. Thanks for your help. Joe |

Re: par car f/off/r
I looked at the diagram and key switch, 1st I would like to thank Columbia Tech Support for giving such detailed information and taking the time to post this.
Jeggers, the current in the starter motor field is always the same direction this is the F1 & F2 motor posts. Columbia reverses the armature current to change starter motor direction. Yes the starter motor amperage goes through the switch according to the CPC 90 drawing. If you use 30 amp automotive 12V relays you could make a switch last a very long time. What you will need to watch is how the relays connect and disconnect. If you engage forward and reverse at the same time you will burn up a relay or two. If you switch direction too fast and a relay does not disengage before another relay engages you will burn up a relay or two. |

Re: par car f/off/r
Nate,
I think I liked your Idea with the f/r from a cc or ez. I have a key switch from a cc and a handle for a f/r. I am not sure where I will put the F/r , the cart has the harley back end that lifts up so I will need to keep it near the dash. Joe |

Re: par car f/off/r
FYI, we're getting new switches in within then next week or two. The manufacturer says "they have additional strength in the contacts to keep them from coming loose and to handle more amps. They are also stronger to keep the key from being pulled out in the on position."

Re: par car f/off/r
Just wait for the new switch! Don't try to "build" you own, unless you are a master at electronics...
