Someone told me the governor can be removed for about 5mph more speed...but you run the risk of cooking your motor and differential.

Remove the governor and with good tuning it should run 20 MPH and maybe a hair more. I think any thing much faster than that is dangerous on a three wheeler! I run in 107 degree weather with no problems.

I don't suppose you could run us through the proper procedure for removing the governor??? Is it just disconnecting the governor arm and then disconnecting the wire inside the differential?

Disconnect the governor arm that bears on the clutch then remove the rod from the governor arm to the carburetor and you are finished. There is no wire running to the differential.

From what I was told it's the arm coming off the frame right behind the primary clutch. The arm has a wire running into the differential. On my cart the only two connections to the carb were the choke and gas pedal.

Here is what I'm talking about....The governor arm off the frame from the right and the wire goes behind the shock and into the top of the differential.

Pull the arm and wire off! That "wire" used to be a rod that went to the carb. If it goes into the top of the differential, it shouldn't. Make sure the filler plug is there. If it is not get a new plug, clean out the differential and refill with 90 wt gear oil.

Where the "wire / rod" goes into the differential. It actually looks like it was meant to be there. Unless they drilled a hole for it to fit exactly? Then again why would someone rig it this way and for what purpose? I haven't checked over the differential but I'm assuming the plug is the standard style?

People do strange things. So, you have a solid wire, no insulation, attached to a governor that does nothing sticking into a hole in a differential housing sounds like it don't belong there! Right? Why don't you pull the rod out of the housing and see what it may be attached to? if there is a hole there see what function it may have.
The plug doesn't have anything to do with the rod. I thought the plug might be missing and the rod was just stuck in the hole. Now down to the nut cutting ---- remove the rod, if there is an extra hole there, plug it. Take the governor arm off then take the arm and the bent to hell rod off and trash them
