Columbia Par Car Points Conversion
I was wondering if you are able to convert a Columbia Par car from an electronic ignition module to a points and condenser setup. If I was able to locate a points plate and the points/condenser. My only issue is finding the points cam and I was wondering where I could locate one.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated, Viers |

Re: Columbia Par Car Points Conversion
Vintage golf cart parts has them. Around $35.00 for a new one and $17.00 for a rebuilt one.

Re: Columbia Par Car Points Conversion
I know that the Hall effect ignition is expensive and many people have bit the bullet and bought new ones and others have converted to the point system. I would like to try to find a less expensive to the problem. If I could have someone send me a defective rotor and pickup unit that they do not want, i will search for a inexpensive solution to the problem. I will pay expensives. PM me if you can help.

Re: Columbia Par Car Points Conversion
If you could provide a link it would be very helpful. I have seen the part but it states that it is not for my year cart which is a 93 Columbia Par car. Also how exactly would this connect to the camshaft of the engine.
Thank you for all of your help! |

Re: Columbia Par Car Points Conversion
I don't know what link you are looking for. I know the 92 still uses the hall effect sensor but I'm not sure what the 92 uses. If it still uses a standard internal resistor ignition coil it is convertable to the point system. Your flywheel may not take a point cam. some one more familiar with a 93 model can help there. I will try to find information on a 93 in my manuals.

Re: Columbia Par Car Points Conversion
I checked the service manual on the 94 Parcar and it still uses a standard coil so if the point cam will fit the flywheel it is easily convertable to the point system. The 94 service manual did not show the flywheel. Check your fly wheel and see what will work. Good luck!

Re: Columbia Par Car Points Conversion
The ignition on this cart just has a straight shaft under the cap for the electronic ignition. So do you have to go further into the engine to mount the cam system. The cam that I recived is soild I thought that it would be hollow and would slip over the existing shaft but it does not. Later on in the week I will post pictures. Thanks for all your help.
