Question 96 DS Electric Club Car drawing current when off

Recently found the cart dead. All batteries discharged. After disconnecting and trickle charging, still having problem.

After turn key off, the meter still glows dimly, and it appears the resistors or at least some are very hot, as the metal plate above them was burning hot.

I disconnected the batteries and got extreme arcing.

Any suggestions for what to check?

Thx.

WELCOME TO BGW!
So ...... it is a 96 resistor cart Okay resistors are energized all of the time? Was the key off you may not be wired properly but! The immediate problem is the V-glide is stuck on... The V-glide is the black Pie shaped box under the drivers seat.... pop the cover off and see if the wiper contact is returning all the way to Zero? I will guess not. Next you need to figure out why the solenoid is energized when it is sitting? Are you turning the key off?

Wow, thanks for the quick reply. I will check out the vglide tommorrow.

The key is definitely turned off.

I also noticed that the dim glow on the meter can be extinguished by putting the f/r switch in the very center.

The dim glow is from the battery guage on the dash. Whatever bar was lit indicating charge level when key is on, remained dimly lit when key was shutoff.

Okay, the vglide has 8 "segments" to it, and returns to the bottom 2 when pedal is released. If I push it down firmly I can get it to go to the 1st. Must it go all the way to the first? There appears a rubber stop that is preventing that.

Re: the solenoid, I ohmed out from the white cable on f/r switch through the solenoid to the white cable on resistor, and I have continuity.

The solenoid appears quite "fouled" with apparent corrosion, so I imagine I should remove and clean off?

Lastly, with the key turned off and removed, I can still drive it in both fwd and rev :o

If I put it in neutral, and press the "gas," I hear a dim reverse buzzer like sound.

Thanks for your help.

Wow Crickets....

Anyway, thought I'd provide feedback. The solenoid fixed the issue.

Thanks!
