Let's see your homemade dash!
I'm building a lifted G1. I have my new tires and wheels and today got my 4 front shocks from a couple 400ex. I also have my lift kit about halfway finished.
I was hoping to have it finished already, but wife has me in the middle of house repairs after a fronzen/broken water line flooded the house. I still hope to finish the lift tomorrow anyway. I am missing the square dash area where the ignition and choke fits. I'm going to build something myself but not sure yet what. Thought I'd ask if anyone here had made a custom dash for their cart. I'd like to see some pictures of what you may have come up with for yours. Even if it isn't a G1 I'd like to see what you made. |

Re: Let's see your homemade dash!
I built a custom dash for my G1. Used 3/4" square tubing and 1" flat stock to build the frame work. Here's a pic of the finished dash. Sorry no pics of the frame work.

I stayed conservative. Go to my signature album if you want a bigger picture.

Thanks guys. Gray Horse, that's kind of what I had in mind to build. Except I have some aluminum plate that I'll probably make mine with. Use angle for the frame and then cover it with the aluminum.

Re: Let's see your homemade dash!
Smokin', that'll work. Be sure to make plates to put on the back side of the cowl where you bolt your frame work to. I used 1" flat stock and drilled holes in it to match the ones in the frame, approx 5 1/2" long. Drilled holes in the cowl, mounted the frame on and put the plates on the back side of the cowl. Just gives a flat, solid mounting.

Re: Let's see your homemade dash!
I hope I'm not imagining things, but ...
I was just doing some measuring, and fitting, and decided that if I took the front end off, I can do better job of fitting pieces (angle iron, square tubing, etc.). Then I looked from the front of my '81 G1, and noticed that the steering column goes from directly in front of the driver toward the center of the cart, at an angle (5-7 degrees) to the right, in addition to angling down at about 52 degrees. So anything built off cart straight up from the firewall will not fit over the steering column ... right? Please let me know if this is the case, or I may have an offset steering box underneath the front end ... More questions than answers, Ogre |

You can get a replacement online for about $30. I drilled holes and mounted gauges in mine then painted it with spray-on bedliner paint.
