G2 gas solenoid problems
My original solenoid was bad,so I replaced it and the battery wires while I was at it.(thicker and better connection). the replacement solenoid I got is the one for that original yamaha part. made in mexico. yamaha doesn't make them anymore. it didn't work. I got 12 v at the small red lead with pedal pushed and of course 12v on big incoming post, but nothing on the post to starter. if I jumped between posts cart starts and runs fine. Goovey carts took back 1st solenoid and sent a replacement......same fricken thing!!!! they are 12 v d.c. continuios with the replaced part number and for g2 to g-10 right on the label...are they just a P.O.S. or am I missing something. I know the origanal was bad because the small red lead was only getting 3 to 4 volts when pedal was pushed and now I am getting 12 but nothing after that. I've also triple checked the ground and that's fine....HELP!!!!!!

Re: G2 gas solenoid problems
how do you mean you checked the ground...run a jumper from the other small post directly to battery negative and tried?

Re: G2 gas solenoid problems
I had the same exact issue with my G16 when the solenoid when bad a few weeks ago... I got 12v on the post going to the battery (of course), 12v on the small red lead when the gas pedal was pushed, and the ground was tested to be good.... but no power to the post that went to the starter. I could hear the solenoid click when I pushed the gas pedal, and the starter worked if I jumpered the solenoid posts, so I put a new solenoid in and problem was solved.
I also have a gas G2 but I've never looked too closely at it. I know my G16 has some fuses in the area of the solenoid, but I think the G2 only has one fuse and that's on the rear driver's side fender-well area. Sounds to me like the solenoids might be defective if jumpering the posts works. If you can't figure it out, or find that this second solenoid is defective, look for the White - Rodgers brand solenoid. They looked to be good quality and that's what I went with. Good luck! -Andrew |

Re: G2 gas solenoid problems
thanks for info..I'll look for that make of solenoid if it comes to that. Mine isn't even clicking when you press the pedal. I've tested the stop switch and it's fine....really starting to get on my last nerve. I think it's time for a cold beer and some rethinking.

Re: G2 gas solenoid problems
Well I just re-read your first post and the 3-4 volts on the small red lead shouldn't have anything to do with the solenoid itself. At least on the G16, the small red wire is a trigger wire, triggered by a switch at the gas pedal I suppose. Are you still (this very moment) getting 12v again at the small red lead with the gas pedal pressed? If not, might want to jumper 12v directly from the battery to the small red lead's post on the solenoid.
I assume when you jumpered the wires in your initial post that you jumpered the two large posts, or somehow jumpered constant power directly to the large post that goes to the starter? How did you jumper things exactly?? In the meantime, maybe that brewski will clear your head some. |
