i have a ezgo in the neighborhood with an interesting problem
we have good spark on one plug and little to none on the other. the cart wont start untill it is choked! once choked it starts and runs fairly decent. but once you stop. it wont restart without choking every time. carb is new coil is new fuel pmp new all line on the pump checked. supply and pulse line all ok valves adjusted to .004 cold new spark plugs i connected my snap-on vantage secondary scope and inductice clamp and tested both plug wire while running the engine.. on one cylinder i have good KV voltage anywhere from 7,000 to 20.000 volts and on the other nothing.. removing the plug and holding a gap about an inch from the exhaust manifold and can force output on the coil to about 2-7Kv but leaving the plug grounded to the manifold and runnin the engine shows a weak spark across the gap and nothing registering on my seconday ignition scope. the pulse coil Ohm'd out at 21 ohms. the repair manual states this should be between 436-540 ohms approx. the pulse coil puts out a good AC sine with increasing frequency and rotation increases... this is the input back to the Ignitor which in turn should step up the voltage signal and output that to the coil? if the pusle coil was bad that should cause a probhlem on both cyls. correct? So i am leaning torwards the Ignitor as the problem a quick test light at the coil shows the on-off switching with the flashing light only problem is low sparkoutput on one side.. any suggestions would be appreciated.. I am a retired Automotive technician with 21 yrs of BMW wrenching and these base electrical systems are new and technical for me. Rich |

hi rich,
Did you install new spark plug wires when you installed new coil? Might just be a bad spark plug wire. Yes, when the pulsar triggers, it fires both spark plugs by way of the ignitor. The output of the pulsar should be ,5v to 1v ac consisent. Doesnt sound like ignitor, because its firing the coil. You could have a bad winding in the coil. |

the coil comes with the wires... its a one piece unit.. and the wires coming out of the coil are none removable.. so maybe i have a bad new coil....?
we are seeing some voltage leakage out of the wires jumping to the metal plates just underneath the wires... i/we used a plastic zip tie to contain the movement but from my expierence these shouldnt be leaking anywhere period! i will scope the pulsar coil.. and check the AC sine for the 1-5AC then make sure it gets backs to the ignitor on the other end.. if thats ok and the ignitor is firing the coil its the wires On the new coil iGuess this is perplexing!.... |

There should be no arching from new coil and wires to metal parts. I think your coil assembly is faulty. Be sure the(-) wire on the coil is connected to the ignitor.

Spark plug wires in the 295 cc ezgo coils are detachable. In fact you can buy a set of just the two cables along sans ignition coil.

got a new coil and the coil on this engine for some reason the wires are integrated as part of the coil and you cant remove them.
still no spark at one side. ac pulse from pulse coil is good at 1-3 volts ac has a new fuel pump carb. plugs pulse coil seems to be working wires from pulse coil to igniter are ok. ??? how can only one side fire on the coil one pulse coil so Im assuming that both coils are fired at the same time.??? only part left is the igniter. cant find any description on how this ignition system times the spark.. my 2 stroke rotax has 2 pulse coils 180 deg. apart for firing the two cylinders on my aiplane engine so with one pulse coil im assuming they are both suppossed to spark at the same time. |

i replaced the coil and still only one side fires??????
the ac output from the pulser coil is 1-3 volts. and the AC pattern looks ok on my scope. only one side of the coil is firing one cylinder I dont know what else to do |

Are the spark plug wires detachable? I don't want to break them. Any suggestions?

Yes, they are. Just twist them counterclockwise.

check the black wire coming out of your ignitor going to the d- ,which is you grond loop to battery. take loose the black wire clean its terminal and place a jumper to a good ground or battery -. try and start. also The coil needs 11V minimum on the + of the coil when cranking.
