Default alignment of G1

The steering wheel on my 84 G1 is not lined up right when I have the wheels pointing straight. Is there an easy way to correct this? It seems to be kind of steery also as I am driving it(lots of play in the wheel) Any help you can give would be appreciated.

To take the play out, there is a lock nut and adjusting screw on top of the steering box. Loosen the nut and tighten the screw while moving the steering wheel then re-tighten the nut. To fix the steering wheel alignment you can pull the steering wheel off and rotate it on the spline.

I also find it helps to "pack" the steering box with grease.

OK...feel like an idiot now. How do I get to the steering box. The front does not lift up like the rear does.

I find it easiest to jack up the front end and take the drivers side wheel off and "reach in" from there. Not an idiot at all. The idiots are the ones that don't ask questions before there in over there heads. Dave

Everything I have needed and felt like knucklehead for asking has been answered and
all my matience has been done

But here we go : My wheels are straight also but steering wheel off a bit
you say just remove steering wheel and replace actual wheel on pole lined up ..
Where are bolts to get actual steering wheel off (I guess I dont have to go near steering box)
On wheel is that a cover - how does it snap off I guess

99 Yamaha G-16

Thank You
