EZGo Robin EH29C excessive smoking and unable to stay running

I have a 98 EZGo with Robin EH29C engine. It would continuously turn over but would not start. I replaced the fuel pump and cleaned the Carb a few months ago and it ran fine for a short time. Hasn't been started in couple months. Now, it started back turning over, occasionally trying to hit but never starting. I have read on this forum to check and adjust valves. I did that and no help. It is a lifted cart so I know not to overfill the oil. I changed it and put 1.25 quarts in it to start with. Compression is around 180 on both cylinders. After changing the oil, it still smokes excessively, backfires and will run but only with choke pulled out. Has new plug and I checked to make sure they spark. There was! Fuel filter new... Voltage regulator replaced last summer. Any ideas what to look for? Thanks in advance

pull the carb and REALLY clean it. Also, valve seals may be your oil/smoke issue
