Default 2016 RXV Voltage Reducer Issue

Hi all,

So I know there's dozens of voltage reducer threads, but I read through many of them and couldn't seem to find anyone having the same issue...

So I installed this voltage reducer along with an aftermarket headlight/tail light kit: https://a.co/d/1BRP1g2

I pulled the 48v input from the B+ post of the solenoid (the large post opposite the input side) and through a 10a fuse, the ground was run to the (-) post of the last battery in the pack. I have 48v at the fuse block when all is said and done, but as soon as I plug in the voltage reducer, I lose the 48v output from the solenoid, and the cart will no longer run. Unplug it, and everything is fine.

I know these controllers are finicky, could it just be a matter of it not liking that particular reducer? The only thing I've yet to try is hooking the reducer up straight to the batteries just to make sure it's functioning correctly.

Any other thoughts?

Connect the reducer to the Plus on the Battery not on the solenoid!!!

Every thread I read on here indicated connecting to the solenoid was fine, plus it will give a switched feed as opposed to a constant one. Am I mistaken?

I've tried the same with a 4 wire reducer, the RXV doesn't like that. The function of the solenoid is different to other carts, it's always on when the key is on, shuts off automatically. A trigger wire of a 5 wire reducer would be no problem, I guess.

You screw up the precharge function if you connect to the load side of the solenoid! You should not do that. That is why your cart won't work with it connected that way.

I'm thinking that the trigger wire on my EZGO reducer hooks to one of the small post on the solenoid, IDK how many wires it has. I can look at it for you OP if needed. The 48V B+ and B- go on the battery directly as stated above. Don't try to tie it in at the key switch, bad things happed when 5V meets 48V. Good luck

Yeah definitely knew not to go to the key switch.

Makes sense using a reducer with a trigger circuit. I'll swap it out and let y'all know how it turns out. Thanks for the info

And on a completely unrelated note, I've got a basically new 4-wire reducer available if anyone needs one, haha.
