Post 06 Fairplay thinks dead battery

Hello all. I am a new to both the golf cart world and this forum,
I recently was gifted a 2006 fairplay golf cart that worked pretty well overall. I was restoring it, Paint, custom lights etc.... while installing underbody lights for the wheels, my ground wire for the under body lights touched a negative battery terminal. Since then. The cart reads dead battery and will not move. Also, the resistor (I think that's what it is) that goes across the solenoid gets extremely hot when golf cart is powered on. I've done some voltage tests and the ignition still works, the pedal voltage works fine, each battery readys 8 volts,.... I do not know what else to test or how. If anyone can guide me through this, any help would be very much appreciated as this was a budget build and now I'm lost .

Seems that's a brand that never took off in the US and went under quite a few years ago. Anyway, as many others here will tell you more details on the exact state of the batteries, what type they are and how old they are will help.

Grounding a negative to negative does not sound that serious though. Are there fuses in that setup that may have been blown in the process? Also, where does it 'read' dead battery?

The battery level on the dash is flashing on the last bar. They are 8v us general batteries, lead acid, each still reading 8 volts. Older set that needs to be replaced but the cart was working until I was hooking up those lights.
If I didn't mention before, the positive wire on those under body lights was alligator clipped to the power on the acc (positive on key terminal) when I touched the ground to one of the ground terminals. I've checked every fuse I can find, all fuses still good. But why does that resistor get so hot? it's too hot to touch. And why would the cart read the batteries as dead on the dash board? When connected to charger, it does charge, but at lower amperage, as it would if it were nearing the end of a charge cycle

Resistor is getting hot because it's passing more current than the normal 0.1-0.2A. Something may have gone bad in the controller. When you work on the cart do you turn off the run/tow switch (if it has one) first?

The controller is what I was hoping it wouldn't be, but is what I am thinking the problem is. I did not use the tow mode bc this was the first time I touched the wiring and did not do any research. It has a DCX300R8 controller from altrax

Altrax has some good diagnostic capability from what I have heard. No personal experience but there are lots of other folks here who do. Perhaps you can reach out to Altrax support to get some guidance from them directly?

As far as diagnostics go, I haven't gotten that far yet as I'm new to this. My best guess is maybe I overloaded the controller by completing a circuit or something when touching 1 wire to key + and one directly to battery - .
Any guidance would be helpful from anyone so I appreciate you responding to my post. I will try to reach out to altrax to see if there's something I can do to pin point the problem.

Update. Found the attached diagnostic pdf online. I got the 6 red blinks after green, and I will follow instructions and go from there
