broken lock on new "dash"
New dash is installed, and checking out the locks and one of them came apart!
The tumbler came out, and naturally the door is locked. I can't get my hands into the compartment to release the lock from the inside. I hate to try & stick a screw driver in the door - don't want to bugger up the new dash. Open to suggestions |

Re: broken lock on new "dash"
Crazy question, have you tried sticking the tumbler back in and working with it?

Re: broken lock on new "dash"
Yep, aligned the tumbler and the part in the dash, & I can’t get the tumbler inserted far enough into the lock to do anything. The tumbler still sticks out 1/8 inch with all the tabs lined up. No mater how I align the tumbler, it won’t insert fully back into the lock.

Re: broken lock on new "dash"
It looks like a slot in the back of the cylinder. Look in the back of the lock for a bar. If there use a pair of needle nose pliers and put them in there and twist. Should open. Once out take the lock out of the dash and see what is missing. You could also try putting the cylinder back in and twist slowly. May drop in and turn.

Re: broken lock on new "dash"
That’s great but what good is that if you can’t get it open?

What Kgsc said
The lock assembly turns the tab/ lever in the back of cylinder that locks tumbler assembly fits into. Turn that and glove box will open. Once open change the lock. The tumbler, key assembly only engages the latch inside the cylinder. Turning that latch is no different then useing key to turn latch. Look at back side of tumbler/ assembly and it should be apparent what engages glove box latch 😊 |
