Yamaha YDRE JW2 will not run
I am trouble shooting a friend's YDRE. It stopped on the course. After reading all the threads I could find, I have these diagnostics: Full voltage to key switch 51V, Lights work, If in tow for a while and switch to run - solenoid clicks in but clicks out after about 5 seconds, reverse buzzer sounds. Pedal press causes solenoid to click. shuts off after a few seconds. I measured voltage to A1-A2 after solenoid clicked in and pedal pressed - 0V. Obviously cart does not run.
Please help. Is it solenoid, Moric Controller or motor? |

Re: Yamaha YDRE JW2 will not run
If you try to roll it with the tow/run in run, the solenoid should engage and you should feel the cart give you resistance, as the controller is preventing the cart from rolling away.
If the solenoid engages and you do not feel the cart try to stop the "roll-a-way", then it is a very high possibility that the motor is not working. The Hitachi motor is know for the brushes sticking to the brush holders. I have repaired many Hitachi motors for cart owners on a budget with excellent results, but if money is not an issue, just buy a new motor from one of the site sponsors. |

Re: Yamaha YDRE JW2 will not run
If you are getting 0 volts on A1 and A2 with solenoid engaged and pedal pressed, that sounds like a faulty controller. Try the "push test". Then test the motor separately. Disconnect the battey. Remove all four wires from motor. Connect A1 to F1, A2 to F2. Apply around 12V to these two connections with wheels off the ground. Motor should run slowly if it's good. I own two of these carts (2009 and 2012) neither now have the stock motor or stock controller. Both are weak points in these carts.

I'm sorry I dropped the motor to have a look at the brushes. Here is a pic of the one brush. They are all the same. Is there enough brush body left?

It wouldn't hurt to replace them since you have it apart. Clean up the commutator at the same time. Those brushes are pretty worn but not to the point of failure IMO.

Will the brushes move freely in the holder?

Re: Yamaha YDRE JW2 will not run
Take a careful look at the commutator to see how damaged it is. I can't see it in your picture that you posted. If it's not too badly damaged, you can clean it up with emery cloth or even regular sandpaper. You want the copper shiny before you reassemble.
