Default 1994 Ezgo Txt Monster Cart

I finally started on the 94 Txt project I picked up last year. Some of you may recognize the cart. The goal is to get this baby running, driving, and stopping. Spruce it up with a modern TXT body, quieter muffler, and some chassis paint.

It is equipped with a 6" All Sports lift, HD rear springs, front coil overs, 27" tires on 12" deep dish aluminum wheels. The engine is a Briggs Vtwin built by Performance Vtwins (supposedly), with a reworked 2 barrel carb.

This cart was built years ago by another member. It definitely needs some updating. It saw real trail action at CAW several years in a row. These photos are from his build on BGW.

My son (14) is superintendent of this job, so he has made a plan for the cart. He says the roll cage and bed have to go, in favor of a rear seat. For now the 27" mud tires will stay.

So, with the assistance of a cutting wheel and recip saw, we removed the cage and bed. We also removed the rear body, which was steel. This cart feels much lighter now, way easier to move around the shop. We gave her a bath too. Lots of Carolina mud all packed up in there

I already test fitted the white plastic rear body, it fits perfectly, but it does hit the exhaust. So I'll re-route the exhaust to point down away from the bagwell area. Simple fix. The current muffler is a Supertrap. I may change that, we'll see how loud it is.

I was able to strip down the cart a little farther today. Removed the front body and all the gauges and relays for all the lights, as well as all the extra wiring. There were so many relays and fuses mounted in strange area. Most of the connectors were crimp on cheap stuff and they were loose and some were corroded. If there was any kind of electrical issue I don't think I could have ever found it, so I just decided to start over.

The plan is to just get it running, driving, stopping, and looking clean. It appears to have been sitting outside for quite some time, so there is some minor rust touch ups to do, not a full frame off restoration, just a light resto.

I did verify the engine model. It's a Briggs Vtwin model 351447. I haven't looked up the specs on it yet. It has a remote filter setup with a tiny plastic hose that goes to the oil pressure gauge. I need to block that off for now. I also verified that the throttle is only opening 50% for sure, and I don't think on this cart that the throttle ever opened any farther, at least not the way it's currently hooked up. I wonder if the previous owner was disappointed with the performance? So that needs addressed.

At this point I'm just making a punch list. It's possible tomorrow I can get it running and driving.

Here's a current photo.

Briggs 351447 translates to a 20 hp 570cc engine. From the specs the previous owner gave me, it's said to have a Performance Vtwins rev kit and cam, as well as pistons and rods, all installed by Performance Vtwins. The carb is also Performance Vtwins prepped and installed. I was told this engine was a screamer.

After I test run it I'm likely going to remove the engine for inspection and clean up.

Got the plastic body fitted up, looks much better. It's not perfect but it's worlds better than what was on it.

Installed a new battery and new clean fuel and fuel filter, the engine started instantly. In a short few minutes it warmed up and ready to be fine tuned. After fiddling with the air fuel adjustment screws I had the engine idling nicely.

After the engine was fully warmed up I decided to take it for a spin, even without brakes. It actually drove and steered perfectly. It's a little stiff with the HD leaf springs and the coil overs but overall it was pretty decent.

Brakes are next. It is equipped with the Ausco rear hydraulic disc kit. The master cylinder is dry.....so.....

I know what you mean! Since I sold my Predator 670 powered G1 this TXT is reviving my speed and power addiction.

One thing about this cart, it really seems to start out in a much lower gear than what I'm used to. I've only driven this yesterday for maybe 10 minutes total lol but it really feels like it has "granny gear" if you remember the old 4 speeds. The primary looks like a CVTech Series 06, but the secondary feels like a stock Workhorse style. I'm betting someone put a big spring in the secondary. It stays in "low gear" for a good 5-10 seconds on full takeoff then you really feel it shift, not what I'm used to. Feels like it could pull a house.

Did some more sprucing up on this cart. Added a top and rear seat kit. It's looking pretty good. Rebuilding the carb currently, found a rotted out bowl gasket, parts should be here tomorrow. Bled the rear disc brakes, working good now. Adjusted the shifter cables, now it switches gears. Lots of little things that were neglected for years. Painted the black plastic trim.

Still needed to do:
1. Remove old decals & install new
2. Buff the body a little bit
3. Add Slime to the right front tire
4. Alignment
5. Touch up paint on frame

Getting closer. Photos coming.
