91 E-Z-GO Build with a little help needed.
Hello folks, I'm the proud owner of an E-Z-GO Which I believe is a 1991. I've had the cart for about 12 years now and it has served me marvelously. The cart has a 295 Robyn plant inside and was already lifted when I purchased it. Before I get all froggy, I need to make sure I know what the heck I even have. The serial number says "653952" and the Model is "J2791". I'm thinking it's a 1991 Marathon (I'm guessing Marathon because of the square profile?). Do you all have another way to tell if it's a Marathon?
Here's what I use the cart for, DEER HUNTING! We call it the "Buck Hearse" The cart has the two backwards facing seats on the rear and they fold down to a flat bed for stacking dead deer on. Here are my plans for the cart; 1. I've already ordered a new 350 robyn and it should be here by next Friday 2. The rear lift SUCKS! The springs bounce all over creation and make a ton of noise. I want new springs/shocks in the rear. Any comments appreciated. 3. I'm painting the cart Forest green except the black moldings. 4. I want to install the front hood cowl that accepts lights. 5. I want to install the clays box on the front hood. 6. The front end lift is solid but it can point wherever it wants to. There's nothing keeping the front end centered. I know I'll need some photo's, they're coming. 7. The steering is and has always been loose at high speeds, photo's to come. 8. The plastic insert tray that tucks into the dash is trashed. Anyone even know what it's called? I can't find one anywhere. 9. I want to install an oil cooler. I'm looking for a cooler name/model and where I should mount it along with instructions to plumb it to a 350 Robyn. 10. The rear seat foot rest is also loud and "springy". I want to support it so that it feels solid and stays quiet. Any suggestions? I know I just threw out a lot of stuff with no photo's, still, any help is appreciated. I'll have some photo's tomorrow, PROMISE. If any of you can think of any mods or improvements that I may as well do while this thing is torn apart, let me know. Power is of the utmost importance, far more so than speed. |

Okay, here are the photo's of the Buck Hearse;
General shot, can you all tell what kind of E-Z-Go this is? Here is the front end lift. Can you all tell it's off center? Here is the rear end lift and this thing is BOUNCY. The shocks do not slow down the spring rate and the springs are noisy. Any suggestions? The engine compartment, any suggestions on where to mount and oil cooler? Do I even need one? Here is the glove box area. You all notice where the screwdriver is pointing? What do you call the liner that goes there and who sells them? |

I had used a set of shocks off the back of a big street bike on my cart like yours, stiffened it right up. If you know of any bike junkyards finding a set shouldn't be a problem. The size depends on how much lift, I believe mine came off a suzuki gs 750 but I part out a lot of bikes so they may be from another.
I would change to txt springs up front, toss those blocks and add a drop axle, that'd help a bunch |

Okay sir, you're dealing with a complete igoramous on your nomenclature. I pick up on the rear end shocks and springs, no problem, and I'll start the search. The front end has me lost though. What are txt springs and drop axles? |

Re: 91 E-Z-GO Build with a little help needed.
The spring are a couple inches longer and have a slight bend where the axle weldment bolts up. this levels the axle so the wheels aren't tucked under and provides more clearance for the bigger tires while turning. The drop axle is basically the same as your straight one only it bends down on the ends, this eliminates the need for those blocks that are holding your body away from the springs and the blocks on top the axle itself. These pics are of my cart and it's pretty much the parts that come on it. On your cart you'll have to use your steering setup and spindles, I believe the pan bar that runs between the spindles will need to be lengthened but other than that it should be a bolt on installation.

Re: 91 E-Z-GO Build with a little help needed.
Well ruredy, that looks simple enough to me. I was googling your "drop axle" term and found several kits but nothing with just the front end group. My take on this is that you believe the rear end would be fine with simply different shocks/springs. This leaves a bunch of extra parts I wouldn't need from a full kit like a "jake's" kit.
Does anyone know where to find just the front end lift components for a drop axle? The other things I still need help on are; 1. Is my cart a 91 Marathon? The serial number says "653952" and the Model is "J2791". 2. I want to install the front hood cowl that accepts lights. Will this work? http://www.golfcarcatalog.com/catalo...roduct&id=1325 3. The plastic insert tray that tucks into the dash is trashed. Anyone even know what it's called? I can't find one anywhere. 4. I want to install an oil cooler. I'm looking for a cooler name/model and where I should mount it along with instructions to plumb it to a 350 Robyn. Do you all even think I need this cooler? |

Part of the rear bounce is your tires. They are 4-ply 8 inchers. I had those on all four corners on my Workhorse and I know exactly what you mean by bouncey. I replaced mine with 23x10x10 wheels and tires that are 6-ply. Makes a BIG difference in ride quality. |

Re: 91 E-Z-GO Build with a little help needed.
i think a used set of ATV coil overs may be the best way to go in the back. there somewhat adjustable and will have the lift built into them.
