I accidently hit reply before I finished typing, in case you missed the rest of the post.

Looks like the VIN for 96-99 models are above the left rear axle like you said and 2000 models are under the dash on the passenger side.

Awesome... so at least if I sell it as a 98 model, I won't be far off. Very much appreciated. I've got people clamoring to buy but no one committed yet.

First Character:
3 = Power Master System
4 = Standard XP Power System
5 = XP+ Power System
8 = 9 HP Four Cycle System
9 = 13 HP Four Cycle System

Second Character:
C = Classic
D = UtiliDump
E = Eagle
F = Foursome
H = Tram
J = Utilitruck 2400
N = Utilitruck 2400XB
S = Shuttle
U = Utilitruck
X = Utilitruck XB
Z = Ambulance

Third and Fourth Characters are Factory Modifications to Standard Vehicle:
A = 36 volt high speed motor
D = 48 volt power system, 8 6v batteries
E = 48 volt power system, 6 8v batteries
S = Special product modification
W = Front wheel hydraulic disc brakes
X = 4 wheel hydraulic disc brakes
Y = Rear wheel hydraulic disc brakes
Z = Custom carts model

Then 5 Numeric Characters are the sequential Serial #:
Example = 12345

Then Suffix (when used) which would be 1 Letter and 1 Number:
D = 1900 decade
E = 2000 decade

8 = 1998
9 = 1999
0 = 2000
1 = 2001

If you go by that info and your VIN# is 8C-25077:
9 HP 4 stroke engine, Classic model, Serial # 25077.
What about the year? Well looks like they must have not put the years on all of them because it stated (when used). Yours is definately a 1996+ model.

Ok, got your full post. Yep, I'm going with 1998 and stickin' to it.

96-99 Classic models should have the exact same parts so no big deal. You might find someone on here that wants to buy it. Start a new post with it.

Did you decode that straight from the VIN # or did you look the VIN up on a salesbook, logbook or something?

I looked it up in our database. I'm the Technical Support Manager at Columbia.

Still going completely by memory:

My folks had one of those years although I can't remember it exactly. It was a 96 or 97, same style as yours though. The cart is long gone but I remember tinkering with it pretty well. I have two 85s now and, if memory serves me correctly, they have pretty much the same set-up as the cart my parents had. There were a couple of differences, oil injection and muffler for sure, but pretty much your cart should pretty much match mid-80s carts on should you be researching things.

Oh ok. Thanks for looking it up.

Just to satisfy my curiousity, is the info I posted about the VIN in post #9 right or wrong?

Absolutely. We have a few caveats here and there but then sometimes our own database has been incorrect.
