Pictured: Rear bracket and Jakes bracket fit, the 2 by 2 inch tube I plan to use to tie the front and rear brackets together, the front bracket with tabs tacked on for mock up, front bracket installed for mock up.

More Pictures
The front bracket is bolted in, but the back bracket is just sitting in there. I need the steering rack to make the tab for it as that tab will hold the rack as well. So far everything is going well. Keep i mind I don't have a huge shop or formal fabrication experience lol. The only thing I did not build was the bend in the front bracket. I had a fab shop bend it for me. The two brackets will eventually be held together (welded) by 2x2 square tube. Also, in one of the pics you can see how much wider the rear track width is, a pair of three inch spacers are on their way to help with that. Kelly |

Re: Rebuilding my VW powered Yamaha G14 limo
Classes began today at CSUS so I won't have as much time to work on it. Hopefully I can still make some progress on the weekends though if it ever stops raining here.

Re: Rebuilding my VW powered Yamaha G14 limo
I made some more progress today. The drop bracket between the frame and Jakes lift is now one piece, and the last mount tab and holes are tacked on and drilled. I had a friend helping today and we sorted out how to mount the steering rack as well. We also mocked it in to position using jack stands and checked steering geometry. No bump steer. Next I will have to get more steel and fab the rack mount, and srut mounts. It's starting to come together! (the front end anyhow)
Notice the 3 inch spacers. They made a huge difference in the front track width and should make the cart much more stable off road. Also, see the air ride shock/spring. I am strongly considering re-using these so there will be air ride suspension all the way around. Kelly |
