Default TXT Lithium battery conversion and stock controller

I wanted to upgrade to lithium batteries from my current trojan flooded that are going dead. Was looking at the epoch 36v 100 ah battery. Would i need to change out my current contoller? I believe it is a cutis pmc 350amp controller. Not sure if it is stock?

Default TXT Lithium battery conversion and stock controller

I converted my 2001 Club Car to lithium 7 years ago and it still runs fine to this day on the stock controller and motor. I knew the stock parts weren’t worth anything so I figured why not run them. So I would say no you don’t need to change the current controller to go lithium.

You should be fine as long as your staying the same voltage. You getting their charger too, I would assume.

Ok. Made the jump to Epoch lithium 36v 100ah. Have to say that the customer service has been great so far and the battery is built very well. Also has bluetooth app. Cart def gained speed from old trojan batteries. Will see how it goes long term. Left stock controller in.

Nice... The heated battery will come in handy if you plan to use and charge it in the winter depending on where you are. keep in mind some of the heated batteries only use incoming charging voltage to power the heaters and wont turn them on unless they are connected to an active charging source like solar.

Some work differently and the heaters will just turn on when temps go below zero... Those will drain the battery while in storage if not maintained with a charger so also be aware of that. You can also likely disable them in the app.

That battery is different that most used in a golf cart since its made of the same 18650 batteries they use in laptop batteries. I have dozens of these myself I scavenged from old laptop packs and use for portable battery packs and flashlights and such.

hopefully this doesnt suffer the typical fate of one or more of the cells failing and destroying the performance of the whole pack (which is what happens often on laptops). I believe the tesla powerwall is made with these too though so they seem to have great performance in this configuration and the 120a continuous should be fine for a stock cart unless your trying to haul multiple people up steep terrain.

Not just the power wall, but Tesla vehicles in general. Newer vehicles (last 5 years or so) use 21700 cells which are slightly larger than 18650’s, but the same concept applies.
