The open center drums were for carts that had front brakes. Carryall, tourall, transporter models, etc. the front hubs on those stick out through the wheel.
The open drums will fit on the rear. They’re basically the same brake assembly.
But the rear drums should have the closed center to help keep dirt and debris out.

If you can push the drum on and it feels like it doesn’t sit on all the way flat, check the center face inside the drum for raised bumps in the casting. Or if it’s machined check the depth of the machining compared to the face that the hub should sit on.
Then check the difference in the hub face and the raised center of the axle hub. If thats greater than the relief in the drum then it won’t sit flat on the hub and will distort when you tighten the lug nuts.

I looked a little further, looks like 1995 and prior used the open center bore drums. 1995ish and newer used the closed center bore. Mine is a 1994.

Still not sure if there’s other variants there between preceeent and DS but something is definitely not right here.

So looking at it today it looks to me like the pocket for the hub to go into is too small and it’s resting in the chamfers of the hub

Hard to tell with your pictures, I would use a set of calipers to measure for sure. But if that’s correct then what is happening is like I described, when you tighten the lug nuts it’s distorting the drum and it is then dragging. It doesn’t take much…

Correct drums should fix it. I’d call David hicks at www.revolutiongolfcars.com

Yeah I didn’t have my calipers handy at the moment. I have access to a lathe and may just get a goo measurement and fix these. We will see.

It’s been a while but I figured out my issue. The drums were rubbing on the pads so I dusted a bit off the sides of rhe shoes and got it free wheeling again. I am planning on doing a disc brake upgrade later this year.
