Do I need an actual muffler or would a compact silencer work also?

Depends on how load you want it. I have used "Supertrap" mufflers on BS builds in the past. They have removable "disc's" to fine tune sound and backpressure. You do want some backpressure on BS engines.

Context Note:(Dipstick Tube) Used Before Code Date 98060100
Part #281370S

Context Note:(Dipstick Tube) Used After Code Date 98053100
Part#693172

My engine had the large diameter dipstick tube that uses the 281370S grommet

However, it wouldn't clear the exhaust manifold with the Tube bracket bolted down.

With the new 693174 Dipstick tube, and different tube bracket location, and the 693172 grommet installed......everything clears fine now

Lol however now I need the dipstick to match the tube
Just ordered it! PN 693175

This seems like a necessary part I need to purchase

Anyone using this? I don't see a way around it

I figured out a way around having to buy those two brackets and waiting a week for them

Hopefully it works.......

I used a section of aluminum angle and mounted it to two horizontal exposed threads, on the differential

I then made a slot in the front of the aluminum bracket, so the F/R cable can slide in

Then, I removed the stock L shaped bracket that connects to the differential and flipped it 180°

I think it should work!

The exhaust manifold is installed and bolted down, along with new manifold gaskets and a thin coating of Ultra Copper

I'm going to focus now on choke cable and throttle cable line and connections

Here's the stock orientation of the F/R bracket, showing the small tab facing forward

I just removed it, flipped it 180°, and bolted it back on
