Default 1974 melex 202 hot coils

I have a 1974 202 Melex.
I bought with no batteries. I looked up the wire diagrams and wired it up correctly according to the schematic. The cart moves forward and reverse freely. But as soon as you put your foot on the peddle the coils start getting extremely hot. I have already cleaned all contacts, slider, solenoid, batt posts and cable ends. Just don't know where to go from here.
I listen to all thoughts
