Re: Magnetic Dipstick
With the natural gas test hookup on my 460 generator I stuck the long MK5 magnetic dipstick in. There 4 some hours on the engine. Before test 1 the engine had not been run in months. Left the stick in over nite and there was the typical fine black particles. Did a 20 minute test run on natural gas and again left the MK5 in over nite and again there was a VERY small amount of VERY fine black particles. Unfortunately the JD america 460 uses a much larger diameter oil dipstick plug that I haven't found anywhere so don't have one of my normal in there all the time units.

Re: Magnetic Dipstick
An interesting note. With the Omega engine which has all 3 shafts shimmed (cam ,balance , crank ) the magnetic dip stick is staying VERY VERY clean. This so far supports my theory that the fine black powder I was getting on the unshimmed clone was coming from the gears driving the 3 shafts. My thought was with the end play in the typical clone the iron filing were coming from these gears particularly upon the revs going up and down as is typical for a street/city driven cart. P.S. This is now with a little over 4 hours on the Omega engine. Stay tuned

Re: Magnetic Dipstick
I see now on Amazon they sell a really nice magnetic dip stick for the 390-460 engine family. Obviously they tell how it extends engine life.

Re: Magnetic Dipstick
I see now Red Beard's Garage is now selling magnetic dip sticks for the small block clone. It is nice to see builders realizing that on the filterless clones this great way to some debris out of the oil.
