1998 ezgo electic cuts out

Have a 98 electric. at the end of my round of golf the battery meter red 50% but when I would accelerate to full throttle it would cut out like my battery was dead. If I feathered the accelerator it wouldn't do this. Any ideas? Could this be caused by low water in the batteries?
