New Lift and Tires - Speed/Torque Q?
OK,
I am planning on installing a 5" Drop axle lift and 23 x 12R tires. On a 36V cart is this going to kill my speed/torque without upgrading the motor and controller. Basically is the upgrade going to cost me an additional $1000 in parts? Please remember I do not take this thing extreme offroading. Nor do I want to go 48V or pop wheelies. I want something that looks good and hauls the kids around. Would a set of the 12" rims and low profile tires without a lift be better for keeping the 300A controller and the rest stock? FAW |

Re: New Lift and Tires - Speed/Torque Q?
Anything you do to increase the tire diameter is going to give you more speed at the expense of less torque. It will also be harder on the stock 275/300 amp controller.
The size of the wheel means nothing, a 12" wheel with low pro tires has a diameter of 18" +/-, the same as the stock 8" wheels with 8.50x8-18 tires. A 20" tire is about as big as you can go without putting a lift on the cart. Once you start lifting and increasing the size of the tires, you can easily run through a $1000+ worth of upgrades. |

So will going from 18" Tire Diameter to 23" diameter make a large difference? I can get the lift and RIMS and Tires for $400. Will my current setup run that OK around the neighborhood?

$400 for a lift, wheels and tires is a really good price and it will probably be OK for cruising the neighborhood for now. If you run at slow speeds, the controller may heat up and shutdown. If you add a rear seat, you may need an upgraded controller soon. They are about $500.

You're not going to get much quality at $400.00 for tires / rims / lift kit - consider that...

Re: New Lift and Tires - Speed/Torque Q?
You will be ok since the factory lifted 2+2 carts come with 300 amp controllers and 22 inch tires.
Make sure you upgrade to 4ga or bigger wires, all of them not just battery to battery. 400 bucks for wheels/tires and lift is not bad if it is quality stuff, Is this used or new, if new than i would question the quality as stated. one other question, what type cart? fleet, dcs/pds? If dcs or PDS you will need to upgrade controllers due to the factory controllers does not even like the 18 inch tall tires and 2 people. That controller will not last long. |

A cheapie lift kit and steel wheels with large tires from BU is about $400 +/-. I guess it all depends what your budget and expectations are. Quality and low price are rarely synonymous. |

Re: New Lift and Tires - Speed/Torque Q?
The lift kit is from a site sponsor and I ordered it this morning. I am assuming that it is good quality. The tires I am getting from a neighbor because he bought them and then decided he wanted to take the cart golfing and they (course) won't allow so he put new turf tires on his ride. He paid $600 6 mos ago and I am getting for $250. They still have the plasic knobbies on them with probably 20 hours of use. They are 12" ITP Wheels and 23x10r12 Carlisle tires.
