Default Looking at buying EZGO cart questions

I have never owned a golf cart and I am looking at an EZGO cart this week. He's asking $1000.
The seller does not know what year it is,but searching your site I have some ideas how to identify it.Model #,steering column bolts, etc. He says the governor is off (which makes me nervous) and it runs well.Is there any way to spot abuse,or engine wear on the spot? any other things to look for?
Thanks in advance,
Lee

An educated buyer is the best defense......$1000 is bottom dollar for a gas or electric cart.....so don't expect too much. You are right to beware about the govenor removal. This could lead to engine abuse? Abused engines will smoke a little or knock alittle? Look for clean or dirty oil on the dipstick.... general appearance will tell you how it was cared for.....also look around at where it comes from....if the whole place is run down chances are the cart got the same treatment

2 cycle or 4 cycle?? Big difference. Get a model # so you can identify the year

I ran up the gov on my 99 and it lasted a few months before I was adjusting the valves frequently and after about a year and a half the head was shot.

Doessn't mean he went as far as I did with the Gov. It could be alright.

Thanks for the replies
He emailed me today saying he didn't know if it was 2 or 4 stroke even though I asked him if there was a dipstick He says he hasn't had it very long and that the campground he's at won't allow carts. I don't know if he's blowing smoke.... or if he's really that mechanically challenged. He's gonna look for the manufacturers # tonite.I'll probably go look at tommorrow.
Thanks again,
Lee
