Default October 2018 Yamaha Recall 2016-2018 models

Has anyone had the latest recall done on the Yamaha Gas Drive 2 PTV EFI golf cart? I received my recall notice today that the gas pedal spring may have been damaged at the factory and could break. When that happens, the gas pedal remains in the down position which could cause a crash with injury or death.

I called Yamaha to see if they would send me the spring since I don't live near a dealer and don't have a tow hitch or trailer. It cost me a lot of money to get the dealer to drive to my house for the LAST recall (Brake cable swedge). This is getting crazy! I had my 2012 Yamaha cart 4 years without a single problem but this 2017 model had the brake recall, gas pedal spring recall, and a multitude of problems with the tire alignment and camber issues. What gives with Yamaha?

Does anyone know how I can purchase the recall part (newer/stronger Gas pedal Spring)? I'm not spending another $200 for the dealer to drive to my house. I'll gladly pay for the part and get a local mechanic to install it.

I believe the Spring is #42 in the pictorial diagram. The old part number is: JW8-F815H-01-00

If your local dealer doesn't have them yet, PM me and I'll send you one. It's a 5 minute job, all you need is a flat blade screw driver, a pair of dikes, and a pair of vise grips. I have had several "long distance" customers say just send me the spring and I'll do it. PS, I've been a Yamaha Golf Car parts and service manager (and mechanic) for 35 years and this year is the FIRST time Yamaha has had a recall! Personally I'm ashamed for Yamaha's lack of quality control and I've told them that. Don't get me started on the hinged windshield fiasco! If I can help, let me know.

I have a 2017 Yamaha, what all does it take to get all the recalls done? I bought it 2nd hand. Also how do you register it in their data base. The local Yamaha place just got all the Yamaha golf carts sales, before it was another place and the local Yamaha place has attitude that steals me away from them.

All a dealer needs is the serial# to see if the brake cable or accelerator return spring recalls have been done. If your car has a OEM hinged windshield, it may need to be exchanged out also. You don't have to "reregister" the car, the serial # is all you need.

Just a question for y'all. Isn't the purpose of a recall like this (safety) done at the dealership to ensure it is done right? (Not questioning anyone's skills here.)

I would worry the liability is now on me if I installed it.
