Curtis Controller and rear end problem
I am getting 5 amber flashes on controller at full throttle then cart shuts down. Once I kill power and reset it will move again. Any ideas on this. I did not see much on the internet about the 5 flashing amber lights. The controller is less than a year old.
Yesterday my kids on the carts and it was like the rear end just locked up. Could not move it. I had to tow it home and the rear end broke free but did not sound good. I am assuming there gears that could be jacked up? This could be why the cart shuttered at take of or at low speed? I was able to pull it into garage when i got it back home. Thanks for any input. Does this sound like a solenoid? The cart 48vpds, PlumQ motor, curtis. |

Re: Curtis Controller and rear end problem
Also could have been a major motor failure that locked it up.

Re: Curtis Controller and rear end problem
sounds like either the motor locked up or the rear axle did..... Definitely not sounding like a solenoid though. I would test the motor first.

Re: Curtis Controller and rear end problem
When I towed it home whatever it was broke free after dragging rear tires. When i got it home I was able to pull into the garage under its own power but it had a shutter in the pedal when pressed.

Re: Curtis Controller and rear end problem
sounds like a motor gone bad. Pull the wires and test for continuity between the posts and the case of the motor. Pull the brush covers and see if the brushes are severely worn down. I once had a motor where the brush was so worn it slipped the holder and wedged itself to the armature creating the exact situation you just described.

Re: Curtis Controller and rear end problem
What model number control is this? The flash codes vary slightly between models. I've never head of a single digit flash code on a Curtis though. Sure there isn't a delay between any of them? Something that may be interpreted as 2,3 or 1,4, etc?
Could be a 5,5 if its a 1268. Main dropout, the battery bank could be dropping low enough to disengage the solenoid. All the publicly available Curtis manuals are posted here: http://www.fsip.biz/CurtisManuals.html |

EDIT: Make sure you use 2 wrenches to remove the wires from the motor. one on the nut you are removing and 1 on the nut under the wire. This way you do not damage the motor. |

Re: Curtis Controller and rear end problem
Thanks for your help. Im assuming if no continuity between the post most may have problems? If thats the case I guess i can call PQ and see if they can rebuild it.
