Marathon Electric - Wire Lengths
I have a cart that has wires starting to corrode I and plan to replace all wires and connections. Has anyone gone to the trouble to measure the lengths of each wire, battery, etc...that can be used as a reference. I can measure each one as I go, but not sure if these wires/cables are original and just wanted to be as close to original specs as possible.
Thanks |

Re: Marathon Electric - Wire Lengths
If they fit nicely now, use those lengths.

Re: Marathon Electric - Wire Lengths
Length is fine if it fits without binding.....they don't have to be an exact length.
However......the size of the wire for your new cables is important. What size are you planning to use? |

Re: Marathon Electric - Wire Lengths
Thank you I plan to go back with same size which looks like 2 ga on batteries and 4 ga on everything else.

Re: Marathon Electric - Wire Lengths
May as well use 4 everywhere. You just default to your smallest wire size anyway.

Re: Marathon Electric - Wire Lengths
I would go to 2 ga on everything that you are going to change. You can leave 4 ga on the things that you are not going to change for now.
It is Not true that your system defaults to the smallest wires. The more large wires you have the less total resistance you have in the circuit. Obviously, the best case is all large wires. |

Re: Marathon Electric - Wire Lengths
Thanks for the comments....so just to clarify, I was going to use 2 for all battery connections....am I understanding correctly that I could use 2 on my connections from FNR to motor and FNR to controller as well with no issues (other than slightly more expensive wire/cable)
