Re: 2003 Club Car Gas blowing headlight fuses when engine runs
You might try to jump the ground wire direct to the neg. side of the battery. Then start the engine to see if fuse blows. I have had prior problems when trying to ground to frame as it is easy to develope poor connection.

Re: 2003 Club Car Gas blowing headlight fuses when engine runs
I'd put a voltmeter on the light circuit, measure, start the motor, measure. You may have an overvoltage situation. A bad ground will not blow fuses, a short circuit to ground, overvoltage, overcurrent or a shorted light bulb/socket will blow fuses.

Well Doug I wasn't going to reply but then I don't know when to shut up. Have you ever poped the breaker when a bulb burned out? What causes that?

Keith... would you still like the regulator testing procedure?

Re: 2003 Club Car Gas blowing headlight fuses when engine runs
If the filament in a bulb breaks it usually leaves you with an open circuit. If for some reason it blows the fuse/breaker then the elements that hold the filament have touched ground, creating a short circuit.

This seems like a good thing to check if everything is fine until the motor starts.
From what I said before, start here: Quote:

It is the arc as the filament burns that drive the voltage into a spike blowing the other bulbs and then taking the breaker out, check the grounds also.

Re: 2003 Club Car Gas blowing headlight fuses when engine runs
Care to explain that some more? I have done electrical work for years and have personally never seen this happen in low voltage incandescent bulbs.

Re: 2003 Club Car Gas blowing headlight fuses when engine runs
I'm sorry... Is your name Keith... Doug?
and to be totally honest... fuses are rated by amperage... not voltage! 12V fuses can sustain up to 32V as long as it doesn't exceed the amperage limit! |
